Infrastructure Analyst Duties and Responsibilities

To accomplish their core duty of diagnosing and solving problems in complex computer systems, Infrastructure Analysts are responsible for many tasks. We analyzed several job listings to identify these core Infrastructure Analyst duties and responsibilities.

Diagnose System Problems The Infrastructure Analyst monitors the performance of network systems in order to identify any issues. They routinely perform analysis during normal IT Infrastructure operation, including on networks, firewalls, servers, operating systems, applications and devices.

Design Solutions When a network issue has been identified, the Infrastructure Analyst works with the IT team to determine the appropriate solution. The solution should solve the problem at hand as well as mitigate future issues. The Infrastructure Analyst will work closely with the Information Security team to ensure the plan is in accordance with security procedures.

Implement Solutions Once a plan has been formulated, Infrastructure Analysts either provide the plan to the IT team or work with them to implement the necessary upgrades, patches or troubleshooting to solve the problem. They document the changes and follow all change management procedures.

Communicate Issues and Changes Infrastructure Analysts are responsible for proactively communicating upcoming infrastructure changes to management, and working with the workforce to smooth transitions and decrease any negative impact on business.

Identify Opportunities for Improvement The Infrastructure Analyst uses his up-to-date knowledge of IT infrastructure to identify opportunities to use emerging technology to increase efficiency and flexibility. They may formulate improvement plans and pitch them to leadership.
