- Planned, developed and currently teaching diabetes, cardiovascular and weight management classes on the Saint Vincent’s Mobile Health Unit and Care Mobile Unit
0-5 years of experience
Provide medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management education for individuals and groups. Coach clients on incorporating healthy eating and physical activity into their life with a focus on goal setting and follow-through. Teach clients how to inject insulin and other injectable diabetes medications. Educate on medications and blood glucose monitoring. Guide clients in developing their ability to problem solve and adjust emotionally to diabetes.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners and diabetes educators to deliver all aspects of diabetes care for populations with Type 1, Type 2, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes.
- Serve as nutrition expert on the Summit Bariatric Surgery team. Provide all pre- and post-op nutrition counseling and support for weight loss surgery patients.
- Utilize data management systems to download and review meters, pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGM). Provide guidance to providers for adjusting insulin/medication based on data and patient feedback.
- Perform nutritional assessments for clients with diabetes, prediabetes, heart disease, dyslipidemia, thyroid disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, celiac disease and other diagnoses.
- Certified trainer for AccuChek, Animas, Medtronic, Omnipod, Snap and Tandem insulin pumps and Dexcom and Medtronic CGM systems as well as V-Go insulin delivery system.
- Develop education programs and materials for clients and the community.
