This is a Federal Security position where I help safeguard Federal buildings for the Department of Justice.
- In these Federal buildings, my experience mainly comes from interacting with either the general public or Federal employee’s.
- Some of the equipment I have used are the Garrett handheld metal detector, magnetometers and the Hi-Mat Plus x-ray machine for people entering Federal facilities from a lobby access point.
- I also have the experience with dock access entry points where I conduct a different type of screening process for vehicles entering the Federal property. I do this by knowing color coded ID badges, signing in a person or group of people in a motor vehicle to include a name, a room number, signature and license plate number. I also conduct a vehicle inspection by asking an individual to unlock all doors and trunk, and then making my way around the vehicle looking within it, as well as using a rolling mirror to look underneath a vehicle, for the detection of a possible bomb or anything else that seems out of the ordinary.
- Other duties with this position involve walking the building inside and outside looking for suspicious packages or people. If there is a suspicious package, I use my handheld radio to contact our dispatch and ask for the proper help to respond. If I encounter a person wandering the building, I ask for an ID badge who should have the proper color code for access during restricted hours.
- In this position, I have the pleasure working with Department of Homeland Security Police (FPS), US Marshalls, US Coast Guard and others like the ATF, ICE and FBI. Depending on the situation, Federal Security Officers and any of the agencies mention above work together to keep America safe directly by its buildings and personnel.
